  Douglas William Oliver (North-West University, South Africa)
 
Douglas William Oliver Douglas William Oliver is a pharmacist by training and specialized through two doctoral degrees, one in Pharmacology and another in Medicinal Chemistry. His professional career includes amongst others, Professor and Head of Department of Pharmaceutical and Medicinal Chemistry at the University of Pretoria at the age of 32, Professor and head of Department of Pharmacology at the North-West University at the age of 39, Director or Research of the Unit for Drug Research and Development, Faculty of Health Sciences, North-West University, and currently Director of School of Pharmacy, North-West University (previously Potchefstroom University for CHE), Visiting Professor in University of Bordeaux, France, Washington University, USA, Queensland University, Australia. He has trained more than 30 doctoral and master degree studies in pharmacology and medicinal chemistry. Dr. Douglas Oliver is a council member of South African Medicine Control Council and South Africa Pharmacy Council, committee member of several expert health committees appointed by the Minister of Health in South Africa, leading South Africa National Research Foundation rated researcher, the President of the South African Pharmacology Society and former chairman of the Academy of Pharmaceutical Sciences, internal Auditor of IUPHAR. The author of more than 110 publications, USA, European, South Africa, Japanese patents and presenter of more than 200 national and international presentations in 30 countries. Scientific interests: drug discovery in the areas of neurodegenerated disorders and virology, including anti-HIV compounds, computer aided molecular modeling of small molecule and proteins. He was taken up in the Who’s Who in the World and nominated Man of the Year Award and Gold Medal for South Africa by the American Biographical Institute: International Board of Research.
