Professor Marcia M. C. Ferreira is a full professor at Instituto de Quimica at Universidade Estadual de Campinas, UNICAMP, (Brazil). She received her BSc. in Chemistry from Universidade de Brasilia in 1974 and, in 1979 her MSc. from New York University (USA). She got her PhD at UNICAMP in 1984 in the field of Quantum Chemistry. Since 1981 Dr. Marcia Ferreira has taught at Institute of Chemistry of UNICAMP, except for the years 1993-1995 when she worked as a post-doctoral fellow in chemometrics under the direction of Professor Bruce Kowalski, at University of Washington (Seattle). Since then, her research has turned mainly into the field of Chemometrics, where with her many students and co-workers have published extensively (over hundred of publications and almost three hundred presentations in international and national scientific conferences). Professor Ferreira is the head of the Laboratory of Theoretical and Applied Chemometrics (LAQTA), and is widely involved in educational activities promoting chemometrics nationwide and outside of Brazil. She is currently editor of the Journal of Chemometrics and was the organizer of the 10th International Conference of Chemometrics in Analytical Chemistry (CAC-2006). She is a member of the Brazilian Chemical Society, International Chemometric Society, and the Cheminformatics and QSAR Society. Her research interests encompass many aspects of educational chemometrics and development of chemometric methods, and its manifold applications to analytical, food, industrial and environmental chemistry, computational chemistry of biological related problems (molecular/drug design and QSAR/QSPR), and structure correlation.
